We will stay overnight indoors at the Methodist church in Roanoke, Illinois both Friday and Saturday nights with sleeping bags on the floor. Bring a sack lunch for Friday night. Saturday breakfast and dinner will be served by church ladies. During Saturday we and about 100 other Scouts from DeKalb County will go to Washington, Illinois and meet with about 100 Scouts from Washington. We will be assigned jobs to work at during the day, primarily clearing along roadways and removing debris from residential sites. We will be served lunch at a Lutheran Church in Washington. A special parch will be given for participating in this event.

The plan is to go down with 100 boys from Scout troops throughout DeKalb County and meet another 100 Scouts from the Washington area for a major debris removal effort. No final headcount yet. We're praying for good weather. An EF-4 tornado destroyed 1,000 homes tearing a city apart. Our boys will meet up with their boys and together 200+ Scouts will make a visible impact that people can see, with an emotional impact people can feel. Boys Life magazine will be on hand to cover the event for a feature article. It will be a memorable event for all involved as the work they do will be something they will never forget.

    BALLOON SETTING FOR
    NORTHERN ILLINOIS OUTLAWS

    SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2013

We have been requested to do a project with Northern Illinois Outlaws. This project involves "BALLOON SETTING". This is a fundraising event that allows boys to earn money while setting balloons in a riding arena. We did this last August. We could do more of these fundraisers in the coming year, if we can get a sufficient number of boys to this event.

Northern Illinois Outlaws is a riding/shooting group. For more information about their sport you can visit this link.

    http://www.northernillinoisoutlaws.com/index.html

Cowboy Mounted Shooting is a sport for horseback riders, wearing period cowboy outfits, shooting blank ammunition at balloons while riding a challenging course through a riding arena. It's fun and exciting to watch. Our Scouts work in teams to replace balloons between rides.

The event will take place at Amber Sun Acres, 19819 University Rd, Malta, IL 60150. It is located at the t-intersection of S Malta Rd and University Rd.

    OKLAHOMA TORNADO PROJECT - tba
    July 1-7, 2013.

The Fujita Scale is used to rate tornadic activity on a ratio of EF-1 to EF-5, with EF-5 being the most powerful storm level. It is rare for an EF-5 tornado to form.

On Monday May 20 an EF-5 tornado struck Moore, Oklahoma killing 24 people. Eleven days later on Friday May 31, an EF-5 tornado struck near El Reno, Oklahoma killing 19 people.

These tornados struck only a few miles apart, causing over a billion dollars in damage, leaving hundreds injured and thousands homeless.

Last year Troop 33 Scouts responded to an EF-4 tornado in Harrisburg, Illinois and twice responded to Hurricane Sandy on the east coast. Our boys put in over 1,000 man hours working to help others recover from national disasters.

A national disaster has struck in epic proportions. A major project lies in Oklahoma for those willing to work. This project is during the week of 4th of July. We will help people in Oklahoma recover from two EF-5 tornados.

We need good Scouts with strong muscles who want to make a positive difference in other peoples' lives.
